SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos III ‘the Great’, 222-187 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.16 g, 12 h), Tarsos, circa 216-213 (?). Diademed head of Antiochos III to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to outer left and right, monograms; in exergue, bow in bowcase. SC 1026.2. WSM 1262. Boldly struck in high relief and with a particularly noble portrait. Good very fine.

Houghton & Lorber tentatively associate this emission with the financing of Antiochos' campaign in Asia Minor in 216-213 BC, during which the king defeated the usurper Achaios and had him mercilessly executed in 213 BC.
